On June 24th 2019, I went to Nepal with my schoolmates on an aid education trip with the purpose to help and teach students in a primary school in the countryside of Kathmandu. The school’s image is as the following picture.

This is the school’s playground
The Salyansthan Secondary School lies in the beautiful mountains named Kathmandu, looking pretty much like the countryside of Xi’an.

Views around the school

The students there are all younger than 12 years old. Although there are tiny differences between the Nepal’s and Chinese’s education system, it isn’t a big problem. The school has three classes -- grade5 and grade7 are in one class, grade 3 and 4 are in one class and grade 2 is one class. There are about fifty students in total and most of them haven’t got a complete family. Some of them lost their mother and some of them lost their father, or both.

The school is built to help those poor and unfortunate children, so we are not the only people to help them. They have seen many different people from various countries wearing different clothes and having different religions. They watch the world with their own eyes just like we do, but the difference is when we see the suffering and injustice, all we do is to complain about how unfair the world is and how poor the disabled are rather than to seek a way to help. However, the kids there know the problems and have realized that they are not as good as us in many ways, so they study very hard to enrich their mind. Although the kids there are always happy and active, they are very quiet and concentrated when they are studying. No matter which class they are in, they always keep there mind on their own work and try to do the best. Whenever they have questions, they will raise their hands and ask the teachers to explain.

There is one kid who impressed me most. As the picture shows, the first one on my right (the boy with his hand rising). He is 12 years old and he is homeless. He wondered on the street every day and helped doing cleaning for others just for foods, drinks and a place to sleep. Until the principal found him and offered him the opportunity to study in her school. He is a math genius. I think he is the smartest kid in the school.

These children are also very talented, and have many hobbies like drawing. They can draw all kinds of pictures and be able to imitate pictures of their textbooks.

To sum up, the trip is more meaningful for me instead of for the kids. I have learnt more from them than they do from me. The spirit of never giving up and the will of trying harder to live really inspired me. Therefore, to make the world and ourselves better is exactly we should do.
